Regarding Texas Private Security Board Continuing Education Rules

Update!  September 16, 2006

The Texas DPS Private Security Bureau has made some changes to the continuing education requirements for PIs which are effective immediately. Very few investigators are aware of these changes and the other online CE providers have yet to get a course approved and in place so I thought I would put this out to all of our previous clients just in case.

The new TX PI continuing education requirements are explained by clicking here.

Here is an outstanding letter that could serve as a basis for your request to the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Board Commissioners urging them not make additions or changes to our continuing education requirements.  Mr. Ryan continues to be an active member of our community and well respected for his abilities:

Dear Sir:
I understand that in the future changes may come about to increase the number of hours needed by our profession in order to gain our licenses. At this point, I feel that our existing total of 16 hours is sufficient and would hope that your group allows this amount of quality hours to stay the same.
As you may or may not know, a large percentage of private investigators in our Great State have strived to bring our requirements to a higher level among our peers, and it's obvious that Texas may not lead the nation, but is up among the top leaders in education and requirements in order to gain and hold a license within our State.
Myself, I have had 35+ years of law enforcement, and now this is my 5th year as a private investigator. I feel that I have strived to improve my knowledge of our profession as others have and are doing. I feel that the 16 hour education requirements are more than sufficient to keep us in step with other states and I humbly request that you consider leaving the total at the 16 hours.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation and understanding in this matter, I remain;
Joe Ryan

One Course, One Test and I was DONE with my continuing ed. for the year!

With the other online CE course providers, I would have had to take 4 courses and 4 exams and spend twice as much money- that's silly.
