Continuing Education for South Carolina Private Investigators CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 24, 2004
– PIEducation.com announced the acceptance of its online courses for
continuing education requirements mandated for private investigator (PI)
license renewal by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The SC PI
Continuing Education Program requires that, to renew a license or
registration, each licensed and registered PI must document at least twelve (12)
hours of SLED approved continuing education training every 2 years. Four hours of the training must be presented or specifically
sponsored by SLED. Out of state PIs
should call SLED in order to determine relief from this specific requirement.
For
your information, the policy can be found here. Specifically, all business holders and registered private
investigators are required to earn twelve (12) hours of continuing education
credits every two years as of January 1, 2006.
Four (4) of the twelve (12) hours must be presented or sponsored by
SLED.
The state's continuing education program officially began July 1, 2004. Prior to January 1, 2006, each licensed and registered individual
must have
documented six (6) approved hours to SLED before being allowed to renew their
license or registration. Two (2)
of those hours must be SLED presented or sponsored. Note:
Authority for the CEU requirements by SLED is contained in Section
40-18-30(B)(4); authority to deny renewal of a license or registration is in
Section 40-18-130 (3) of the South Carolina Code of Laws. You should contact Diane Connor by phone (803)
